Minh-Khai Phan-Thi, EU Ambassador

If there’s one thing that Minh-Khai Phan-Thi simply cannot bear, it’s being called a foreigner.

If there’s one thing that Minh-Khai Phan-Thi simply cannot bear, it’s being called a foreigner. That’s because Minh-Khai was born in Hessen in 1974 after her parents had come here from Vietnam. She never denies her family background – her mother has a PhD in chemistry, her father is an engineer – but cultivates it instead. Even as a child Minh-Kai, which means “rising sun” in Vietnamese, expressed her desire for the stage. After graduating from school she was discovered for television and soon made a career as a presenter with her quick-witted repartee. Since 1999 she has concentrated on acting. In 2003 she realized the project closest to her heart, the documentary film “Mein Vietnam – Land und kein Krieg” (My Vietnam – A Country without War). Now, in 2008 she is an EU Ambassador for the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
