Gerhard Richter

Panorama

Gerhard Richter, artist with many faces, a seeker, is indisputably German most important contemporary artist. His paintings fetch record prices in the tens of millions of euros. Yet the artist himself is a shy, reserved person – certainly no “painter prince”. Gerhard Richter will turn 80 in 2012, and Berlin’s New National Gallery has been celebrating this birthday since 12 February with a comprehensive exhibition called “Gerhard Richter Panorama”, which was compiled in collaboration with the Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou, Paris. A retrospective and an homage (until 13 May 2012).
