A few hours after the first reports about the opening of the border, growing numbers of Berliners stream to the border crossings. The first large crowd – between 500 and 1,000 men and women – are waiting at the Bornholmer Strasse border crossing.

“Tagesthemen”, the West German news programme, reports that the German-German border is open. Because many East Berliners watch western television, a massive rush to the Wall begins.
+++ 11:30 p.m.
Thousands of people are now standing at the Bornholmer Strasse border crossing and demanding that it be opened.
+++ 12:00 a.m.
All Berlin border crossings are open. People dance in the morning on top of the Wall.
